SWARCO modernizes Neutal site in Austria
25 years after laying the foundation stone, SWARCO is giving its signalling technology factory a complete overhaul
In August 1999, the excavators moved into Neutal in central Burgenland to build the new SWARCO factory for LED traffic lights and LED variable message signs on a greenfield site. Large increases in orders and the outsourcing of traffic light production from well-known manufacturers to SWARCO led to this step. A quarter of a century later, the time has come to give the plant in Neutal a general overhaul.
‘SWARCO has grown strongly in recent years and recently achieved a consolidated annual turnover of 1.2 billion euros,’ explains SWARCO CEO Michael Schuch. ‘Our site in Neutal, with its 250 dedicated employees, has made a significant contribution to this success story for more than two decades.’
Artur Pesendorfer, Managing Director of the Group subsidiary SWARCO FUTURIT in Neutal, adds: ‘SWARCO FUTURIT itself has more than doubled its business volume since 2000 from 30 million euros to over 75 million euros and is increasingly developing into the SWARCO Group's production hub for intelligent transport systems.’
Recently, the company has primarily realised investments with a sustainability focus. A 1 MWp photovoltaic system in Neutal produces enough electricity to run its own facilities almost self-sufficiently. A heat pump uses the waste heat from the company's injection moulding machines to heat the buildings at Manfred-Swarovski-Str. 1 in Neutal in winter. In the production area, intelligently controlled LED lighting ensures further energy efficiency and makes a massive contribution to reducing the site's CO2 footprint.
The ground-breaking ceremony on 26 August - in the presence of Burgenland's Economic Councillor Dr Leonhard Schneemann, Michael Gerbavsits, Managing Director of the Burgenland Business Agency, and Neutal's Mayor Erich Trummer, among others - marks the start of a fundamental renovation and upgrade of the Neutal site, with operations continuing uninterrupted. ‘SWARCO's decision speaks in favour of the attractiveness and potential of our region and shows that the province of Burgenland is a reliable partner for companies that focus on expansion and innovation,’ said Provincial Councillor Leonhard Schneemann.
Over the next twelve months, a complete modernisation of all office premises to the latest state-of-the-art (energy) technology is on the agenda. Social and recreation rooms in the production and office areas will be remodelled and attractive canteens, including outdoor areas, will be installed for all employees. There will also be a clear structural separation between the staff area and the guest area. Last but not least, there will also be sufficient parking facilities for employees and guests, including a modern charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
SWARCO is investing around 8 million euros in this modernisation and improvement of the Neutal site. Twenty-five years after SWARCO settled in Burgenland, the modernised Neutal site will be officially rededicated with a ceremony in autumn 2025.
