Head of Legal

Your Challenge

We are actively seeking an experienced Head of Legal with a specialised focus on retail and commercial leases in the EV sector. This pivotal role offers a unique opportunity for an accomplished commercial lawyer to leverage their expertise in this leadership position, and significantly influence the rapid growth and strategy of SWARCO’s public facing charge point network – PoGo. This role is Home Based.

The role would have direct responsibility for legal agreements, leases, legal spend, and legal strategy.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strategic legal counsel and guidance with a specific focus on retail and commercial leases within the EV Charging sector
  • Advise on matters involving general commercial property, property development, land acquisitions, and related commercial contracts
  • Draft and negotiate complex commercial contracts associated with EV infrastructure projects, ensuring alignment with business objectives
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of commercial property and retail development work, managing legal matters independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Lead the analysis, structuring, negotiation, and management of the development of commercial properties
  • Form, complete, and execute legal documents and leases
  • Record, share, and report all risks associated with leases, and input into the decision making with the leadership team
  • Engage and direct external legal partners to support where necessary, including all regions of the UK
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to provide legal support and contribute to the enhancement of working practices for increased efficiency and billing accuracy
  • Establish and direct a legal strategy to support with growth plans, including team structure, systems, and process

 

 

Your Profile

What we are looking for

  • Three years’ experience with commercial property law.
  • Qualified to practise law.
  • One years’ experience of working in or with the EV sector.
  • General business knowledge
  • Specific and detailed knowledge of managing a field-based operation.
  • Knowledge and experience in creating competitive advantage through a service organisation.
  • Proven experience in providing legal counsel with a specific focus on retail and commercial leases.
  • Expertise in general commercial property, property development, land acquisitions, and commercial contract matters.
  • Strong proficiency in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts related to EV Charging infrastructure projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of commercial property.
  • Track record of successfully managing high-value, sensitive, and time-critical deals involving prominent clients.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a dedication to building strong relationships.
  • Ability to engage cross-functionally to provide legal support and contribute to process improvements.
  • Excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing at all levels in the organisation.
  • Ability to identify and assess legal risk and advise accordingly.
  • Generation of reports.
  • Strong motivation to achieve, well organised and structured approach.
