Your Challenge

We have an amazing opportunity for  Civils Operatives to join our team in Pontefract, contributing to the daily running of a busy organisation.  As a Civils Operative/Installer you will become an integral part of the Field Engineering Services Team.

We have an established civils team working alongside our existing traffic signal installation teams working for various clients within the Local Authorities. Due to our ever-expanding work load we are looking for experienced and competent candidates that want a long-term position in a growing company.

The position would suit someone looking for a varied role, with experience of small civils works in any industry, but who wishes to learn all aspects within the Highways industry.  

In these roles you will work on various customer sites across North, West and South Yorkshire areas, therefore, a clean and valid driving licence is essential.  Your area of works will be to undertake minor civil works replacing Traffic Signal street furniture and refurbishment schemes within the Traffic Signal Industry.    

What you will do

Working as part of a team doing all aspects such as:

  • General Civils
  • Installation and replacement of traffic signal poles and retention sockets
  • Installation and refurbishment of chambers, lids, and frames
  • Paving (tactile), kerbing, trenching and reinstatement
  • Have a solid understanding of setting out and the ability to work to line and level
  • Be responsible for the locating and exposing underground services in line with Swarco Safe System of Work, Interpreting construction drawings and utility provider’s plans
  • Experience in using a variety of small plant and tools (Stihl Saw, Pneumatic Breaker, Whacker Plate, CAT & Jenny etc.)
  • Cable Pulling
  • Undertake daily checks and record findings of all plant used
  • Adhere to agreed performance levels
  • Completing site activities in conjunction with the wider team to deliver a high-quality finish to specification, on time & to customer requirements
  • Effectively communicating with the customer and the wider Swarco team to resolve issues as appropriate

Your Profile

What we are looking for

Essential

  • Full UK driving Licence
  • Experience in groundwork whether from a construction or roadside background
  • The ability to work well with others and to take ownership/supervise projects as required
  • The ability to maintain high levels of customer focus at all times whether dealing with customers or the general public
  • Adhere to Health and Safety standards and codes of practice
  • Physical fitness and endurance
  • Ability to operate and control power tools
  • Good verbal & written communication skills
  • A good understanding of IT, including Microsoft Outlook & Office, with the ability to carry out tasks on a computer/tablet
  • Right to work in the UK
