SAFETY - our daily mission
SWARCO Road Marking Systems ensures the best possible safety on the roads - for all road users in general, but especially for our own employees working in the field.
It's a challenge: Road marking is a highly skilled job with many hazards. Complex traffic conditions, heat or noise are just a few of the potential dangers. That is why SWARCO Road Marking Systems is committed to ensuring the best possible safety for its employees. In addition to safety systems that have been tried and tested for many years, new innovations are constantly being introduced, as demonstrated by
L&R Roadlines, our British SWARCO road marking contractor.

Precision is the key
If you talk to the road marking crews about their work, you quickly realize how fulfilling this activity is for many colleagues. You also notice the precision with which they work. Details are important, whether it's the exact application of the materials or the processes in the surrounding area, because it is always about the safety of yourself and your colleagues.
However, a foundation stone for safety is laid away from the roads with ISO certifications.
"Our multiple, linked ISO certifications validate our commitment to health, safety, wellbeing and collaboration at work. We focus on continuous improvement as well as innovation. We are guided by current industry standards, but also use new technologies."
Robert Delahunt, Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) at L&R ROADLINES Limited
Optimized Driving Behaviour
What this means in real terms can be seen on the way to the first marking job of the day: the vehicle fleet is equipped with new innovative cameras. The recordings are analysed with the help of artificial intelligence in order to optimize driving behaviour. “In this way, risks - such as fatigue - can be identified and proactively avoided,” explains Robert Delahunt, adding: "We want to promote a culture of safe driving in our company."
Body Protection
Further innovations can be found directly on the operatives - more precisely in the personal protective equipment (PPE) they wear.
Dynamic Ear Defender
Noise is a key aspect of working on the road and can lead to chronic hearing damage. The newly developed ear defender reduces loud noises while amplifying the sound you want to hear, and also provides precise data on the noise level to which the operatives are exposed. These recordings help to optimize the ear protection and adjust it if necessary.
Safety Helmet & Visor
A modern combination of safety helmet and visor (JSP Evo-Vista Shield). The visor is shatterproof and can withstand projectile debris at speeds of up to 250 km/h. A reliable protection against impacts and splashes. In addition, this special helmet combination protects the neck and thus increases comfort during extended operations.
Protective Clothing
Road marking is often a hot job - especially when working with thermoplastic. The material often is heated to around 200°C. This requires a second, heat-resistant "skin" - in other words, flame-resistant protective equipment. The PPE is therefore specially designed to provide additional protection against heat-related injuries.
“The safety of all our staff is paramount, that’s why the PPE we provide is a reflection on all of our standards, only the best is good enough.”
