Smart Lighting

Our smart innovations reduce operational costs

Public lighting and its management have traditionally been static and reactive. Defects are not fixed until they are visually observed and manually reported. Lighting is on full blast even when there is no traffic on the road. Moreover, light pollution in urban areas is increasingly affecting the quality of life and health of local residents.Innovative developments give us the means to transform public lighting into a modern, dynamic and future-proof asset that improves safety, reduces operating costs and contributes to a sustainable environment.

Energy-efficient LED luminaires

Public lighting can account for up to about 1% of a country's total energy consumption, making it the largest cost on local governments' energy bills. As part of the Paris climate agreement, countries have agreed to drastically reduce their energy consumption. One of the most unmistakable measures is to replace conventional public lighting with energy-efficient LED technology, which uses up to 50% less power while providing the same light output.

We facilitate citywide renovations, where all public lighting is completely upgraded. Maintenance work is not required for a period of two decades, as these LED lights have a life span five times longer than traditional lighting. This drastically reduces operational costs.

What is smart lighting?

Providing the right amount of light at the right time and in the right place. Realizing the best solutions for public lighting is a challenge for us. Different locations require different solutions. A busy city center used for events requires different functionalities than access roads or remote areas.

For the Dutch municipality of Bronckhorst, for example, we chose the Interact City lighting management system in collaboration with Signify, which makes it possible to program and read out the LED lighting remotely. The integration of Interact City makes it possible to determine the light intensity at both mast and street level. In this way, the wishes of residents can be anticipated and each situation can be assessed individually. In addition, malfunctions can be automatically detected and reported at an early stage, so that they can be solved immediately, without the intervention of a resident or other interested party.

Smart technology

We distinguish four levels of smart technology. Together with our partners, we offer secure, high-quality and future-proof solutions for all these levels of smart technology.

Active monitoring

Automated fault and damage detection and notifications.

Applications

  • Remote areas
  • Hazardous areas

Active management

Remote management, adjusting the brightness of public lighting to the desired level, both with seasonal patterns and on demand.

Applications

  • Emergency
  • Events
  • Seasonality

On-demand lighting

Light where you need it, but dark where you can.
Lighting based on motion detection.

Applications

  • Minimize light pollution
  • Reduce energy consumption

Smart City

The lamp post as a smart city hub. Solutions include sensor-based environment measurement, traffic intensity-based lighting brightness, and 5G network integration.

Applications

  • City Center
  • Business parks
  • Crossroads

As part of the smart lighting solution, our customers are provided with user-friendly, online portals for lighting management. This gives them full visibility into the status of public lighting and complete control over its brightness. The devices that can be managed by the management portal are connected by a wide range of data connectivity technologies, ranging from local gateway networks to a point-to-point NB-IoT or 2G network.
