Supply Chain Planner

Challenge
We have an amazing opportunity for a Production Supply Chain Planner to join our Procurement Team. Please note this role is Melsonby based so you must live within a commutable distance of the Melsonby office.
The Supply Chain Planner plays a key role in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective flow of materials and components through the electronics manufacturing and distribution process. This role supports the procurement, planning, logistics, and inventory control activities required to deliver high-quality traffic signal and control products on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Material Planning
- Coordinate the sourcing and delivery of electronic components, metalwork, cables, PCBs, and assemblies in line with production requirements.
- Maintain accurate supplier and material data in the ERP system (e.g., SAP S4HANA or equivalent).
- Raise purchase orders, track deliveries, and expedite critical items to prevent production delays.
- Liaise with suppliers to ensure materials meet quality, lead time, and specification requirements.
- Support supplier performance reviews and cost-saving initiatives.
Inventory & Stock Control
- Monitor and maintain accurate stock levels of raw materials, subassemblies, and finished goods.
- Investigate and resolve stock discrepancies through regular cycle counts and stock audits.
- Manage obsolete and slow-moving components, supporting engineering change and product lifecycle processes.
- Ensure material traceability and compliance with quality and industry standards (e.g., ISO 9001, CE, or relevant traffic safety standards).
Production & Logistics Coordination
- Collaborate with Field Engineering teams to align material availability with build schedules and customer orders.
- Coordinate inbound logistics and outbound shipments of finished traffic signal equipment to local authorities, contractors, and distributors.
- Arrange freight, documentation, and carrier bookings for domestic and export orders, ensuring compliance with transport and safety regulations.
- Work closely with the warehouse and engineering teams to manage kitting, staging, and despatch processes.
Data Management & Reporting
- Maintain accurate ERP records for materials, purchase orders, and supplier information.
- Generate regular reports on material shortages, supplier delivery performance, and inventory accuracy.
- Support implementation and improvement of supply chain KPIs (e.g., OTIF, supplier OTDP, stock turns, and lead time adherence).
- Contribute to process improvement projects and system enhancements to drive operational efficiency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with engineering and quality teams to introduce new products, manage component changes, and ensure supply continuity.
- Support customer service and project delivery teams to meet delivery deadlines and resolve supply issues.
- Coordinate with finance on invoice reconciliation, pricing updates, and supplier credit control.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong organisational and communication skills with attention to detail.
- Good understanding of electronics manufacturing supply chains and component sourcing.
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (preferably SAP S4HANA).
- Ability to read and interpret bills of materials (BOMs) and engineering change notes.
- Competent in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Problem-solving mindset and ability to work under time pressure.
- Knowledge of Incoterms, logistics planning, and import/export processes.
Profile
What we are looking for
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supply chain, procurement, or materials coordination role within electronics manufacturing.
- Understanding of traffic control systems, signalling equipment, or related electrical products preferred.
- CIPS qualification (or working towards) desirable.
- Experience with ISO 9001 environments and lean/continuous improvement practices advantageous.
